T ibet
remains one of the most interesting, remote and undeveloped
parts of the world, situated at an average elevation of 5000m
(16000 ft) above sea level. Its limited tourist facilities are
now approaching a reasonable standard.Strictly
speaking this is not a trek but a driving expedition. A trip to
Tibet is not for the faint hearted,
the
travelling can be hard, adventurous and often unpredictable. The
road is often very dusty with the possibility of delays due to
snow. With Tibet's high altitude, travellers with a history of
heart, lung or anemia problems should consult a doctor before
considering a visit. This trip offers a spectacular insight into
the life and culture of these friendly people - from the ancient
monasteries with chanting monks, to the tranquil shores of the
Turquoise Lake Yamdrock coupled with the breathtaking
Trans-Himalayan flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa.Tibet,
province-level administrative region of China, located in a
high-mountain area in the southwestern part of the country. It
is officially called the Tibet (Chinese Xizang) Autonomous
Region (TAR).Potala The enormous palace known as the Potala is
the traditional residence of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and
temporal leader of the Tibetan people. The 14th and current
Dalai Lama, however, has resided in exile in India since the
invasion of Tibet by the Chinese in the 1950s. During the 17th
century the 5th Dalai Lama began construction on the palace,
located in the southeastern city of Lhasa, Tibet's capital of
government and commerce.Woodfin Camp and Associates,
